There are technologies exist to produce homogeneous, flat and glare-free light. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages and depends on the individual user requirements and budget needs. For example, the LED panels from our BASIC and PRO series rely on backlight technology. In LED panels with backlight technology, the LEDs - behind the diffuser - are evenly spread over the entire panel surface and shine directly downwards. This design has a decisive advantage: no other components are required to direct the light in the desired direction [downwards], because the LEDs are already in the »right« position. The simpler design results above all in better efficiency and a lower price as well as a longer lifetime. At the same time you do not have to worry about possible yellowing of the light guide plate, which is often used in some cheaper sidelight panels. The disadvantages: Due to their design, the LED elements require more space, which is why backlight panels are curved towards the backside and therefore have a higher thickness with it. For this [optical] reason, backlight panels are only suitable to a limited extent for suspension from the ceiling. Their smaller beam angle [approx. 90°] results in a smaller illuminated area. advantages ‚ better efficiency ‚ longer lifetime ‚ lower costs ‚ much more attractive price/performance ratio ‚ no light guide plates that are prone to yellowing disadvantages ‚ higher thickness ‚ lower beam angle [approx. 90°] ‚ less suitable for suspension ‚ thicker packaging In the following picture you can see the typical structure of a backlight LED panel.
